What materials are best for my baby's mattress?

Mattresses come in a variety of materials, from cold compressed foam to 100% natural and organic. Often the more 'High tech' mattresses are composes solely of synthetic materials, they are designed to increase airflow and create the perfect sleeping environment for babies. At the other end of the scale are completely natural mattresses, that do exactly the same as the 'innovate' mattresses but using 100% organic and natural materials. Often each end of the scale come with a high price tag and so a combination of cold foam plus a natural layer close to the baby, or an organic mattress pad is a nicer option for budget conscious parents.

What type of mattress support is best for my baby?

For newborns and babies, the firmer the mattress the better. Think the mattress feels super hard? Then you have a great mattress for a growing baby! Once your little one is able to easily roll over and adopt different sleeping positions it's better to give them a medium firm mattress. The ideal is a dual sided mattress that you can turn over when the time is right. If your budget doesn't stretch to this don't worry, a medium firm mattress will see you through the newborn and toddler years.

Heat regulating mattresses?

Babies overheating can be a problem, it can impact their sleep and lead to uncomfortable nights. You don't know if you're going to have a sweaty baby but if you're buying for a baby that's already born, have a particularly warm house or just worry about heat, a natural mattress is the best option for you. Proven to be more effective at helping to regulate temperature and remove heat from your child during the night. If you already have a foam mattress and find yourself with a hot baby a natural mattress pad will help.

Different mattresses require different washing requirements, please always check these before any washing. Air frequently to release moisture and keep your mattress as good as new. Use a mattress protector. Not all mattresses, especially natural ones, feature removable covers. A protector or pad ensures your mattress stays clean and new.
